Trauma Therapy & EMDR on-line, or in-person in Washington State

Are experiences from the past leading to struggles right now?

Maybe you found yourself snapping at your children or partner for “no reason” again, or perhaps you’ve turned down another invitation because you can’t handle being around other people. You may be struggling with harsh critical thoughts about yourself or having intense feelings at the drop of a hat. Perhaps you’re feeling like the things you went through have left you somehow “broken”

Whatever it is that you’ve experienced, you’re beginning to notice the impacts of this in so many facets of your life:

  • Your fight/fight/freeze response is activated by everyday life.

  • You react before you even have a chance to think things through.

  • You feel tired, disconnected, anxious and stressed all the time.

Trauma Therapy and EMDR can help

It may feel impossible right now but you can feel less triggered. You can feel at peace with the past. You can know your own value. And I can help you get there.

Trauma therapy helps you do 4 things:

    • Identify the memories that are the roots of the problems you’re experiencing.

    • Learn how to cope with triggers so you can respond to moments of stress from a more grounded place.

    • Resolve difficult experiences so you can stop feeling troubled and activated by past memories.

    • Gain freedom from the past so you can be present at work, with your family and yourself.

I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to trauma therapy comes from a place that is grounded in the science of resiliency: Believing that you are having a normal reaction to what you went through and you are capable of bouncing back.

Feeling overwhelmed by trying to piece life together after trauma and adversity doesn’t have to be your story.

I can help you get there.

 FAQs

  • Like many things when it comes to mental health, it depends. I offer a wide range of services when it comes to trauma therapy. We will collaboratively come up with a plan based on your needs, goals and preferences. We may start out with just learning more about trauma/adversity and its impacts on you, or learn coping skills to help daily life feel more stable. From there we might decide to help you process the memories the things you experienced using a trauma processing therapy like EMDR.

  • EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a great way to go when that stuck feeling is rooted in past difficult experiences. Though EMDR was originally developed for PTSD it has been found to be helpful for anyone who is struggling because of a multitude of adverse experiences, not just what is commonly throught of as “traumatic”

EMDR is not your typical talk therapy. EMDR involves the use of eye movements or tapping guided by a trained EMDR therapist to help you move through and resolve the experiences that have kept you stuck.

  • If you think that past experiences are related to your current difficulties and want to break that cycle then trauma therapy might be a good fit for you.

Trauma therapy can be done at a pace that works well for you, so the process doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Sometimes I recommend people start with simply learning more about the impact of trauma and gaining skills and sometimes people are ready to start reprocessing their experiences.

If you’re not ready to start talking about your experiences quite yet that’s okay, we can build up to that in whatever way feels comfortable.
